Lesson 2: Comparatives and superlatives

Hello 😀 How are you today?

Are you ready to start a new lesson? Here we go!

HOW MUCH DO YOU REMEMBER?

Work on the following game to revise the family members!

LET'S READ! 👀

Read the following text.

These are the Incredibles. They are superheroes.
Elastigirl is taller than Violet but Violet is taller than Dash. Jack jack is the smallest in the family and Dash is the fastest. However, Mr Incredible is the strongest

👉👉👉 Now, answer the questions. Write the answers in your folder.

1) Who is the smallest?
2) Who is the fastest?
3) Who is shorter than Elastigirl? (apart from Dash and Jack Jack?

GOOD! Now, let's continue!

PAY ATTENTION!

JIM'S HOUSE IS SMALLER THAN TOM'S HOUSE.
TOM'S HOUSE IS SMALLER THAN DAN'S HOUSE.
JIM'S HOUSE IS THE SMALLEST.
DAN'S HOUSE IS THE BIGGEST ONE.

Answer the following questions:

1) What are the similarities between these sentences?
2) Which words are repeated?
3) Which sentences or words are different?

To compare two things we add -ER to the adjectives. For example:

SMALL 👉 SMALLER
SHORT 👉 SHORTER
BIG 👉 BIGGER
YOUNG 👉 YOUNGER
SLOW 👉 SLOWLIER
FAST 👉 FASTER

If the word is too long, we use the word MORE. Look:

Tom is more intelligent than Jim.

The adjective intelligent is long so we add the word MORE.

When we want to compare more than two things we use these words:

SMALL 👉 SMALLEST
SHORT  👉 SHORTEST
BIG  👉 BIGGEST
YOUNG 👉  YOUNGEST
SLOW 👉 SLOWEST
FAST 👉 FASTEST

For example: "Mr incredible is the strongest in the family."
